Most entrepreneurs don't have a strategy problem that's keeping them stuck.

They have a follow-through problem.

In this episode, Jen introduces her new group program, The Momentum Room -- an accountability and support group built specifically for the business owners who know exactly what they need to do, but keep not doing it.

She talks about the gap between knowing and doing, why shame-based accountability backfires, and what it actually takes to close that gap for good.

  • Knowing what to do and doing it are two very different things -- the gap between them is where self-doubt, perfectionism, and confusion set up camp
  • The primal brain is behind your best arguments for staying exactly where you are
  • Busy work fills the day while revenue-driving work sits on the perpetual to-do list -- and that's not a motivation problem
  • Pressure and fear of looking bad in front of a group is not a sustainable accountability model
  • Accountability Without the Angst™ means a calm, direct conversation about what's actually getting in your way -- not judgment, not shame
  • Discomfort is always part of growth. Nothing has gone wrong when you feel it.
  • Doing the hard things with someone present -- even on a Zoom coworking call -- changes how your brain responds to them
  • The client who said no to the Friday afternoon walk didn't do it through willpower. She did it through awareness of how her own momentum works.

The doors to The Momentum Room are now open for new members until May 4, 2026.

Hello and welcome back to the Goal Getter Guide podcast. I am your host and guide, Jen Laffin, and something happened. In one of my group sessions recently that I have not been able to stop thinking about one of my clients who is a sharp, experienced entrepreneur, who has been building her business for over a year and has been in my program for quite a while as well. She sat down to do a monthly planning session. She had blocked out a Friday afternoon. She made a list and she started working and she knocked out four things, good things that moved the needle, which I'm sure was especially challenging on a Friday afternoon. And then one of her friends texted her and asked her to go for a walk. And my client, she said, no, not because she was grinding herself to dust or because she doesn't believe in rest. That wasn't the reason at all. She said no because she knew something honest about herself. In that moment, she told me if I stop. At only four things on my list, I am never going to come back and pick it up again until Monday. So she stayed at her desk and she finished her list. She closed the week with her momentum still intact, and a huge deposit in self-trust bank. This moment matters more than probably even she realizes, and I want to explain why and why. It's the reason I built what I'm about to share with you. In the years that I have spent coaching entrepreneurs, I've noticed something that does not get talked about enough. The people who struggle the most aren't the ones who don't know what to do to grow their business. They are the ones who know exactly what to do. And still can't seem to do it. They have the strategy. They've taken the courses, they've worked with the coaches. They have the plans and the goals and the vision. Yet, week after week, the revenue driving work that they know how to do keeps getting pushed off until tomorrow. Or next week while that busy work fills their day instead, and this busy work is what is doing them in the bigger, more uncomfortable things that a business requires for growth remain stuck on a perpetual to-do list. Does this sound familiar to you? Just the thought of having a bigger sales conversation or pitching speaking engagements, developing strategic partnerships, asking to be a guest on a podcast, writing a book, creating consistent and bold content. Cold outreach, upleveling their pricing and growing their teams is enough to send these entrepreneurs right back to their comfort cave. So what we have here is not a motivation problem and it's not a strategy problem. It is a follow through problem And it's evidence of a growing gap between knowing what they need to do to grow their business and doing it that many stuck business owners fall into, and quite honestly, never get out of because that gap is where self doubt. Camps out. It's where perfectionism creates reasons to wait just a little bit longer, is where confusion that sounds productive keeps you safe from the work that actually matters. This gap is where the primal brain shares it's very best arguments for staying exactly where you are now. I've watched brilliant, capable, serious entrepreneurs get stuck in that gap for months and sometimes even years. They show up and do what they think is the work in their business, but their business. Doesn't grow. They spin and spin and spin in frustration over why things aren't working as they planned, not realizing that they are in complete control of the outcome. If they just made some simple tweaks and I kept thinking to myself, there should be a specific place for this, A room built exactly for this. So. I built it and I want to introduce you to the Momentum Room. The Momentum Room is my group program for small business owners who want to get out of that gap that I just described and get their business moving so that they can succeed. And here's what makes the Momentum Room different from anything else out there. Most accountability programs run on pressure and willpower. They keep you accountable through performance and the fear of looking bad in front of the group. I have been in many groups like that, and it does not feel good. That approach works sometimes until it doesn't. Until something hard happens or until life interrupts or until the uncomfortable work that you know you should be doing becomes just too much. And then you stop showing up to the group altogether. The Momentum Room runs on something completely different. I call it Accountability Without the Angst, because I believe, as you may know, that shame and guilt and pressure are absolutely no way to build a business. As a matter of fact, these things do quite the opposite. Instead of shame and guilt and pressure, I believe in having a calm, direct conversation about what is actually getting in your way and helping you brainstorm what you can do differently. This approach helps you become more curious about your patterns, and it raises your awareness of when these habits are blocking you so that you can stop them. You cannot do that if you're judging yourself. Also being in a room where other business owners are sharing their struggles and getting redirection helps you not only learn from what you see, but, and this is a really beautiful part, you realize that discomfort is always a part of growth and that nothing has gone wrong when you experience this. And you cannot do that if you're working alone. So what happens inside the Momentum Room every month? Well, I have packed. The Momentum Rooms programming with all the things that you'll need to build momentum in your business that keep your momentum moving. This is where your start, stop, start again, cycle ends, and I think you know what I'm talking about. Every week our group meets on Zoom for 60 minutes for an accountability check-in. To share what we're working on and to get coached on the work that you're doing or not doing. You'll also get some support for the resistance that you're feeling and on the thoughts that have been running quietly in the background, making everything harder than it needs to be. You are going to leave each week's session with more clarity than you came in with, and then actual next step that you are committing to taking. Every month in the Momentum Room also includes a workshop that goes deep into one of the pillars of my Goal Getter Framework. We will take a dive into identity and mindset and planning and decision making and avoidance. In the past, we've done workshops on quarterly vision planning on uncovering your avoidance protocol. Next level, entrepreneurship and procrastination detox. By month three of being in the program, you are going to have a fundamentally different relationship with your own follow through. Twice a month. We also hold coworking Power Hour sessions on Zoom, where you will come in and do the things that you've been avoiding. While I'm online there with you. I cannot overstate how effective these sessions are. There is just something magical about doing the hard things while someone is present that your brain simply responds to differently than when you do it alone. And throughout all of this. You are going to have a small, curated group of peers who are all serious about their work and honest with their struggle. This is not toxic positivity, and it's not listening to everybody's highlight reel. This is real people doing the same hard things that you are doing. They are showing up week after week, and it has been so much fun watching this community build together. So who should be in the Momentum Room? Well, the Momentum Room is designed for solopreneurs and small business owners who are earning roughly 25 to a hundred KA year, and they are ready to grow, but they keep getting in their own way. These people may often describe themselves as stalled. You belong in this room. If you are good at making plans, but you struggle to stick to them, you know what you should be doing, and you keep not doing it. Third, you belong here. If you keep over-delivering to your clients while under-delivering on your own business goals, your client work always gets done, but your own business work keeps waiting. Also, if you are working in isolation and you feel it, you need to get in the room this echo chamber of your own doubt, the missing thought partner and the weeks where you lose sight of what you're actually building toward those end when you become a member of the Momentum Room. And finally, and this is really important, you belong in the Momentum Room. If you are decisive, if you are coachable, and most importantly, if you are willing to do the actual work, not just read about it. Not just talk about it. Because if you don't do the work, I will be there to lovingly move you forward because the health of the group and your business depend on it. I am opening the doors to the Momentum Room now, and I'm inviting a small group to come in for this launch. Founding members get access to the full program, weekly coaching calls, monthly workshops, twice monthly coworking sessions, and direct coaching on the obstacles that have been keeping you stuck at a rate that reflects the early stage of this launch. I keep the membership of the Momentum Room intentionally small. I limit the number of participants on purpose because the quality of coaching suffers when you get a lot of people. The intimacy and trust of this group is part of what makes it work. So if you are interested in hearing more about the Momentum Room. Or if you recognize any of this in yourself, in this gap between knowing and doing in the plans that don't become action in the isolation of building something without someone in your corner. I want to hear from you your next step. Is a conversation with me. We're going to walk through where you are, what's getting in your way, and I'll be honest with you about whether the Momentum Room is the right fit for you now, and if it isn't, I'm going to tell you that and I'm going to point you towards something that is, if you're interested in learning more and scheduling some time to chat with me, I want you to visit our website, which is listed in the show notes or is www.jenlaffin.com/tmr for the Momentum Room. And one last thing before I wrap up this week. I want to go back to that client who said no to the walk on Friday afternoon. She did not do that through willpower. She didn't white knuckle her way through the afternoon because she was afraid of falling behind. She did it. Because she has spent months learning how her own brain works, learning what momentum feels like when it's present and what threatens it, and learning how to protect it, not with grinding. But with awareness, and I want that for you. Not more pressure, not a longer to-do list, a real understanding of what's been getting in the way and a room that you can come back to every week while you do something about it. My friends, the Momentum Room is open. Come find out if it is a right fit for you.
